When the hoop connectors were not strong enough

Was looking for something else in my old files when I came across these photos.
During a flight a 3D printed connector snapped and a loose hoop section did the rest.

Another time, another flight, a 3D hoop connector snapped during takeoff because the hoop tube ends widened/deformed over time and many flights. The very tight net created too much tension one the cage; one tube piece flew into one propeller and snapped the shaft coming out of the motor. I didn’t even know it had happened. I heard a different noise while running in the sand but continued accelerating and tookoff. Little I new, I was flying on only three motor. I guess redundancy is a good thing.
I remember the slight right pull in flight but it was not bad. I flew about 40 minutes in ridge lift, landed, put the X4 on the sand, turned around and cursed at the skies!
If you look at the photos, the hoop is missing one section.

A light but strong frame/hoop and connectors are of vital importance.

Love those little dust boots for the motors. Hang bright red “Remove before flight” tags on them? Or do they stay in place?

I removed them before each flight. I never take my frames apart. I made one for my SP as well.
