Switzerland / Germany permit

Hey there

I tried to find info, but it seems all quite old and (hopefully) outdated.
I’m an avid paragliding pilot in Switzerland, which requires

in English

Electric drives for paragliders, hang gliders, and fixed-wing aircraft are permitted as foot launchers or trikes. They must comply with the airworthiness requirements of the German Federal Aviation Authority (LBA) for gravity-controlled ultralight aircraft of the foot launch UL and trike type. Each pilot must verify that the manufacturer meets these requirements.

but I can’t find any information wether or not OpenPPG complies with the LBA-requirements or not.

Any help highly appreciated
Raphi

Anyone?
I wanted to PM some of the members here that seem to be from Switzerland, but it seems I can’t PM here…

This isn’t a complete answer, but hopefully it helps point you in the right direction.

TLDR: I’d ask email the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation or a Swiss school to ask.

I took PG lessons in Switzerland in 2024 and was told that only electric paramotors were permitted, which aligns with what you’re seeing.

Are you resident in Swizerland or elsewhere in Europe? I ask because, in France, your wing needs affixed with a registration number but the UK has no such requirement so as a UK pilot, I emailed the French DGAC to ask if I needed one. They said that as long as my gear was compliant in the UK, I was ok to fly it in France. I would hope Switzerland has similar exemptions but you would have to ask the FOCA.

@NullHypothesis thank you for your reply!
The citation above by me are from the official PG-association (SHV) in Switzerland.

So, the question boils down to: is OpenPPG complying with the LBA-requirements (Germany) or not?
