I’m new to PPG, so pardon for asking stupid questions.
I love the OpenPPG concept and want to go electric (10+ years EV driver), but right now I’d like to go explore longer distance here in Oregon with an ICE engine.
I’d feel slightly less bad about burning gas up there using a 4-stroke, so I’m looking at the EOS Quattro. Could that monster be mounted onto a SP140 frame?
So the motor would fit the frame and prop clearance would be plenty, but you would need a mounting plate as most all the Ice motor manufacturers use different mounting patterns so they’re not going to be a simple off-the-shelf mounting setup. Also, this is pretty raw motor, so almost all frame manufacturers would have to make something special. If you are really set on this motor and you cant get away with an Atom 80 thrust, then I can look at some mounting options.
It’s not the thrust that motivates me to look at this engine. It’s the better fuel efficiency, reduced air pollution and that its noise profile is likely less annoying to me and others.
I really appreciate your willingness to look into this. Let me do a little more research. I’ve also contacted the engine manufacturer in Austria with some questions.
Go with the atom 80 140 cm prop from openppg. I have it and it works really nice and only burn 2.7 liter/h. then everything fits and the geometry is good for your hangpoint and balance. and you can change the engine to battery and e motor
Thanks, Jannik! I’m not getting convincing user reports on the 4-stroke engines, so you’re probably right. Those 2-strokes are terrible polluters, so I wanted to try and stay clear. Switching to electric when we move to Europe in a few years.
