Quick flight with the SP140

He explicitly said in his electric paramotor video, that he would love to test/review e-ppgs

Makes sense Paul, speaking of which, i was on the edge or preordering when the $200 discount was active but decided to wait for reviews… Any estimate when you see yourself having stock, and will there be any additional improvements/changes to the design after the preorders?

Stuff should be in stock in about 2-3 months. No large changes, maybe new gooseneck bar design but most likely the same. Just a bunch of small ease of use changes, most of them for me assembling (took to much time) There will be some cool software updates we are working on right now for the ESC and motor, that will just make the motor quieter and efficiency of the power system go up 2-3%.
That will also be available to all the current SP140 users by update once that’s done.

Also a user manual might even be included haha, none of the pre-orders got that, just had to reference video’s I made real quick to help them get set up. So that will be a big upgrade

Like Paul said we are working to add a bit more polish to the entire experience, from buying to flying. Any software upgrades we will release for free to those that got the founders edition SP140.
Getting lots of good feedback from those that are just starting to fly their new units that can help everyone.

Basically, the idea of giving Tucker an electric motor is understandable.

Unfortunately, there is a great risk that e ppg will then be completely torn apart in the media.

the reason is that the tucker fanboys most of the people are loud and have aggressive flight styles. with very small reflex wings. it’s never about efficiency. more engine power even more engine power. Most people are not interested in whether one annoys the population with the noise.

if he flies the sp 140 with an 18 m2 wing with an open trimmer, the battery overheats after a few minutes and he will write “it will take a long time until the batteries are ready blah blah as everyone is now in social media” I’ve been dealing with eppg for a very long time .

my opinion is that you can find better access via the hobby aviation enthusiast and also people who otherwise fly freely on the mountain.
these pilots love to fly quietly without noise. exactly what an sp 140 can do very well when cruising. the many pilots at ppg are also unable to mathematically understand the advantages of eppg.

They always only calculate the price for a new purchase and do not understand that service costs are saved and that the operating costs are financed in advance with eppg and that in the long term, eppg flies cheaper.

tucker will always compare eppg and ppg and will not recognize that eppg is a class of its own. in the rc model making competition, the e flight has long been the winner in all classes. here it is the other way round. Gasoline engine pilots say it is unfair when speed models with an electric motor fly a race against a combustion engine. because gasoline engine has absolutely no chance of maximum performance compared to an electric motor. But here it is easy because there is no load to fly like with man-carrying aviation.

In principle, a pilot should always test products who have a lot of technical understanding and can also measure with varios and gps. there are many good pilots who work for specialist magazines and often also test pilots for wings are professional.

these people can give facts. measure realistically and show it in diagrams. that would be a way of presenting eppg honestly. if you only want advertising and videos that serve as entertainment, tucker and co are of course more interested in some of the pilots.

i think it’s good how paul says that he and his team need stock before the ad goes big and viral.

Forget Tucker. I know Jeff Goin would be over joyed to fly the SP140. Jeff is into everything electric.

Yup Jeff is on our list! He wrote up a nice review of the X4 a few years ago.

You need stronger boxes for shipping the units. Mine came today and looks like they punctured a few holes in the sides of the boxes and then taped it over with clear shipping tape. The general state of the boxes is crumply. I will take pics before I open them.

The problem with advertisers is that they don’t have the technical knowledge to actually write technical reports. important information such as the takeoff weight etc. is missing as well in the picture you can see as an example how extremely wrong information is given.

yes that can happen if the secretary makes a mistake while writing. but why is it not corrected? In real specialist magazines, whenever there are typographical errors, it is subsequently corrected. or are all without knowledge of technology that nobody notices?

I’m going to be laughing about this one for a while. The person who wrote this clearly does not understand how electricity works.:joy:

Easy gents, everyone makes mistakes.

The numbers might be wrong, but the result is correct. All the average lay person wants to know is that you can fly 6 minutes on 2 packs. That is correct. That you are running close to 240 amps during the climb out only us that fly the units really care about…

I’d much rather have someone show up at Kyle O’Glee’s place with one for him to try. As a reviewer of PPG setups he has a lot more broader experience and a lot more broader understanding of the sport than Tucker. Tucker is a wonderful phenomena but he’s an entertainer and youtube creator that uses paramotoring as his primary subject matter. Kyle is a paramotor pilot and instructor that uses youtube to promote his values and school. As a paramotor pilot I enjoy watching Tucker of course but I watch Kyle to learn about flying.

Or math. 50X80 is 4000 or 4kwh’s not 40! Missing a decimal place on top of having a bad number to start with? Also the conclusion is half. I did a couple of 5 minute climbs and only drained the 4 Bonkas down to 50% or so from a 95% charge. However I’m pretty sure most of the ‘laypeople’ reading this will barely even read that paragraph and sure as heck won’t check the numbers.

Dont forget the classic advertising model – sadly we are still driven by our biological imperatives - get a vid of a scantly dressed well endowed beautiful women flying it and you will get increased sales.
Cheers

The only sad thing about that is people talking advantage of it.
