I need help getting the throttle to spin the motor on my test bed.
Hello. Five years later, I have the same (or a similar) question, but I don’t see any replies to your post. I have an SP140v2 with the MAD M50c35 motor. I want to know how to test the motor, bypassing the Electric Speed Controller (ESP).
What are you trying to test for? ![]()
A brushless motor like you have can’t really be tested properly without an ESC (Electronic Speed Controller). Unlike brushed motors, brushless motors don’t run directly on DC voltage — the ESC is what generates the precise three-phase AC signals and timing needed to spin the motor.
If you were to apply power directly, it wouldn’t turn and could even be damaged. The best way to test it is with a compatible ESC and controller setup so you can verify phase alignment, smooth operation, and any abnormal resistance or noise.
I’m also an RC pilot since 2001, so I probably understand what you mean, but I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking.
Are you trying to test your motor without a throttle controller?
If so, you can do that, but you always need an ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) to run the motor, for example, you can use a simple servo tester.
If you mean testing your motor without ESC, then no, that’s not possible.
