I baited you slightly with my Topic, as we all know OpenPPG is open source, that’s in part why I love this company and design. Nevertheless, it frustrates me that the Turner Twins NEVER recognized us here, in fact they just slapped a parajet sticker on every OpenPPG part they used, kind of scummy.
No, I would not call it a “steal” or anything like that.
We have a partnership with them and provide power packs for their systems and they are free to use them how they would like.
It’s comparable to using a Vittorazi engine for a world record attempt; they wouldn’t be obligated to give special credit to Vittorazi simply because they chose to integrate that specific motor into their frame. So I don’t think its a big deal but I appreciate the link I haven’t seen that.
While Paul’s obviously championing the proper executive sentiment, I just finished the video and came to the same conclusion: it was super odd that they didn’t mention OpenPPG at all.
I mean, they go out of their way to point out how electric is the future, multiple times but fail to give any detail on where they got this future. The title of the video includes “Electric Para-Motor World Record” and sorta just forget to mention the ‘electric paramotor’ parts.
On the other hand, it was sponsored by big names like Breitling and Panasonic. Neither of which were really relevant to the video, so they had to plaster branding everywhere (which I get!).
Technically they didn’t steal anything - just feels a bit snobby maybe.
Did you build them a custom power pack? I think they mentioned the battery was 5.8kWh and they said it was 130V at some point. Wondering if that’s something in the works, maybe a future option?
Yeah that’s fair Paul, “steal” was probably too strong of a word from me.
I guess my point was less legal/technical and more just that it felt weird. The whole video is about an electric paramotor world record, and they talk a bunch about electric being the future, but then never mention OpenPPG at all.
I’m just a big fan of what you’ve created and the open source nature of it all. As far as I’m concerned you are the future sir, not them or an overpriced Breitling, so I was hoping they’d at least give a little shoutout.
Hell, I bet you have a wild battery setup that’d crush what they tried to do anyways, and could call a buddy up tomorrow (btw I’m free this weekend, or next, or next) and could put that WR where it truly belongs.
I wouldn’t phrase it as stealing anything, but I’m in agreement with the crowd regarding the absolute zero mention or credit towards OpenPPG, and everything just plastered over in their stickers.
Certainly seems wrong. But can’t fault Paul for taking the smarter road in business on this one.
