Does anyone have recent experience what are the current tariffs to EU for a complete SP140 setup including battery? There is 2.7% duty and of course VAT but will there be additional tariffs?
Thanks,
Kaj

I tried to get more information about this by contacting the OpenPPG guys, but I’m not sure if UPS will apply additional customs taxes when shipping from the US to Europe.
Probably yes, at least for me, it’ll be around an extra 23% of tax.
Thanks! The VAT in Finland is now 25.5%, the permanent EU tax for PPG’s is 2.7%. In the Finnish customs page there is a note:
However, the additional customs duties imposed by the EU have been suspended until 6 February 2026 (Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1727Link to an external website). The duration of the suspension may change.
So the amount is uncertain and the suspension duration of these ‘response’ duties is also unknown. Note that these must be paid even if the suspension ends a day before the goods arrive, so you do not know what you have to pay when you place the order. Could be 10, 20 or 50% more
.
I unlisted this topic to protect our existing customers from any potential liability. The reason for this is that we mark the declared value based on the price the buyer specifies. Some request a lower declared value, while others prefer a higher one. Most international orders have a declared value of around $300.
This helps reduce the taxes and fees they need to pay and also prevents shipments from being delayed, which can happen with higher declared values. UPS simply marks the value we provide, so it’s up to us to set it. I hope this helps clarify things, but we can set the rate at your discretion.
Hi Paul,
This is totally understandable, especially in the current circumstances. The interpretation of EU law is quite strict in Finland and the sanctions are severe so I will be investigating whether to buy a second hand one (perhaps X4) from the EU or purchase some parts outside the US. This is unfortunate because I would like to support you as much I can, I just love the idea of open design! I am myself designing a quite expensive open source project so I know what is involved. All the best for your enterprise. SP140 seems to be getting to be very close to an ideal setup!
Cheers,
Kaj
