Could we start a tab for how we are 3d printing parts in here? I had one day of formal ppg training, so Im not afraid to admit ive printed a ton of parts. Id like to see what materials and settings others are using. Im definitely not a 3d printing expert, so id like to know if i could be doing something better. I also learned some tricks along the way id like to share, so others can save time or avoid making the same mistakes.
I’ve been curious what people have been printing too. I’m no expert either but I’ve been 3d printing since 2017.
I printed a couple of spare leg clamps (pictured) for a friend’s V2.5 SP140 after a rough landing. They were made out of PETG with 2.4mm wall thickness and dense gyroid infill. Now he needs spare hoop connectors and I’m wondering if it would be more appropriate to print those solid out of PC?
From what I’ve seen, others have been printing their parts in ABS but I hate the smell.
I would’t print any parts in PLA. It might seem strong at first but eventually it degrades and fails when exposed to the elements. PLA parts will also deform over time due to creep if under load.
I also printed some non-critical PETG hoop clips to keep things tidy but they’ve gone a bit loose after being left in a hot car.
I’ve had good luck printing cage connectors modified to attach a protection cage extension for trike launching. I use only PTEG printing at 100% infill, using the long bolts though like the originals, but a millimeter larger diameter ones. Key is to print them so layer lines run from end to end for strength. I’ve also designed other parts to attach my SP140 to my trike, again all PTEG. Some of the larger pieces for this are using 50% infill with 6 outer layers for strength and increased infill in bolt and stress areas.
Does anyone have the 3d files for these components? Having the ability to print these would be next level.
