I launch my SP140 near the Nevada Testing and Training range (outside of the restricted airpspace). I got about 5 seconds of flight time in before I had an engine failure 20 feet off the ground. I looked at the controller and tried to diagnose but I could see it was dark and then the open ppg logo came on and I knew I didn’t have time to restart the motor and had a hard forced landing in a rock pile. Luckily I just got a severely sprained ankle.
I suspect the military was doing radio jamming in the area. I tried to use an HF radio earlier in the day with Zero luck. Has there been a fix to the RF interference causing these motors to reset? I tested keying a 5w VHF radio near the cable and found it caused the motor to do erratic things and restarted the controller. It seems flying with a radio is a complete no-go.
What version from where are you on there was a fix to this a few years ago with a firmware update for the older systems So if you can check the firmware version on your hand controller and update it, that would be the fix for it.
6.6V is the latest for the V1 setups but there are two different variations of it does your hand contoler have a micro usb or usbC? Also it could just be the cable or something like that or more simply a loose connection. The RF noise thing is only ever seen to be the case with a radio or rf jammer right next to the hand controller.
I have the one with USB-C. If you don’t think it’s jamming from the military, what would have caused the engine failure?
I had a friend fly the battery on another SP140 with zero issues. Although, oddly I can’t charge the battery with my charger after his flight. Not sure if that’s related. I tested with a radio next to the cable. It does still have issues when transmitting.
Like I said, something that could cause the engine failure is a loose wire, so the hand controller getting disconnected from the power. That would obviously turn the motor off, or there would be no throttle input to the motor. That also makes it so the hand controller screen would go off, as there’s no power to the hand controller. But I would definitely update your hand controller to 6.6. There’s been a lot of updates since the 6.0 version you’re on.
All throttle cables are actually shielded, including the one you have., but we do sell replacements if you need. Again, I don’t think that’s probably the issue there. But if you want a replacement, we do have some.
